Is the installation really Plug & Play? Does the dashboard need to be adjusted?
Yes, the D9-W211 Premium is a genuine Plug & Play solution for the E-Class W211, S211 and CLS C219. The included trim frame, CAN-Bus decoder, fish tape and panel removal tools ensure that only the original radio needs to be removed and the plugs connected – no cutting or shortening of any wiring harnesses. Most users on motor-talk.de complete the DIY installation in 1–2 hours. For vehicles with Harman/Kardon or Logic7 (MOST fibre-optic system), the optional MOST adapter (14-pin) is required – it simply plugs in and creates no extra work. Do the steering wheel controls, MFA in the instrument cluster and the original sound system (Harman/Kardon / Logic7) work fully?
Yes, 100 % with all models! The CAN-Bus integrator preserves steering wheel controls (volume, track change, phone and voice assistant), MFA display (station name, ID3 tag, caller information) and vehicle clock synchronisation. With premium sound systems (Harman/Kardon / Logic7), the optional MOST adapter maintains the complete fibre-optic connection – no loss of quality and no additional amplifier required. The built-in 4 × 60 W Class-D DSP noticeably improves the sound; many E-Class drivers report significantly better clarity and bass reproduction.
How well do Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto perform?
Fast and stable (Bluetooth + Wi-Fi) with automatic connection as soon as you get in the vehicle. Split-screen display and mirroring are fully supported. Most W211 drivers use Wireless CarPlay almost exclusively and are very satisfied. Wireless Android Auto does not work with every phone (Z-Link can help). The connection remains stable even at higher speeds or on the motorway.
How do firmware updates and the cold start work?
Updates are very easy to perform via USB stick (FAT32 format) on flex.dynavin.com (3-year or 7-year map package). After the vehicle has been stationary for a longer period (> 48 hours), a full cold start takes 1–2 minutes – this is normal power-saving behaviour and protects the battery (an important topic with older W211 models). The system then boots in approximately 3 seconds.
How is the DAB+ reception and sound quality?
The system comes with a high-quality DAB antenna and switches seamlessly to FM if the digital signal weakens. Thanks to the DSP, 16-band EQ and time alignment, the sound is noticeably better than the original COMAND radio – even with Harman/Kardon systems. A signal booster helps in areas with weak reception (e.g. in cities or with older W211 models).
Are there typical problems such as battery drain or other limitations?
The system is designed for minimal standby power consumption. With older W211 models, a slightly longer start after long periods of inactivity is occasionally mentioned – this is intentional to protect the battery. MFA and steering wheel functions are very stable with the current D9 models; minor limitations from older Dynavin generations are practically non-existent here.
